If you are looking for a boost to your vocabulary, reading strategies, or comprehension, visit this website! http://www.flocabulary.com/context-clues/ It'll take you straight to a video on Context Clues (we worked on this in a third grade classroom yesterday) and from there you can browse the site. So much fun!

Schools on the Big Island will be closed BOTH Thursday and Friday, the 7th and 8th of August. Stay safe, and we'll see you on Monday!
- Miss Cook Who's excited?! Raise your hand! Raise both of 'em!
I'd be that excited too ;.). School here in Montana still has a week to go. I hope you had a fantastic last day, said many thanks to Ms. Demeter, and have a healthy, happy summer vacation. I'll see you on campus next year as FOURTH GRADERS!!!! No, I won't be teaching fourth grade, but you'll be in fourth grade classrooms! Doing fourth grade things! You're going to love it. Stay safe, put on your sunscreen, and know that you are LOVED!!! - Miss Cook Found this great article about a meaningful way to apologize to others and thought I would share! This would be great to use in the classroom or at home. (Just click on the colored words above to go to the article or read below.) Here are the links to the long awaited classroom productions. Click on the title to be taken to the YouTube page. These links will only be active for a brief period of time. If you would like to be able to access the videos after the links become disabled, please message me and give me the email address you'd like to use to access them, and I'll give you the rights for viewing. All of the Reader's Theater plays you see here were taken from Achieve 3000, better known as KidBiz. Enjoy! (Be prepared...the quality of video is not the greatest. You'll need to turn up the volume!)
- Miss Cook American Idol Pizza Mystery - With Idioms Princess and the Frog Wizard of Oz My dear, sweet students. I just wanted to let you know that I've been checking on your spelling scores and other subject areas from my computer, and am so proud of how you are growing! Some of you grew from 40% to 80% in your spelling this week. That's great! Some of you need to make sure you practice those words every night so you can increase your score as well! I hope you are being kind to one another, respectful to Ms. DeMeter, and are enjoying your days at school!
<3 Miss Cook Aloha! HSA testing is over!!! We are celebrating by making this week a very creative one, full of theater, country reports, reading, and just spending time enjoying one another. I’ll be assigning homework that consists of a bit of math (we have the Chapter 11 tests this week), reading, and a science test, but the main focus will be on memorizing scripts and gathering items for simple costumes. Students should just use whatever they can find around the house to create their costumes.
And now for some sad business. This will be my last week teaching at Holualoa this year. My mother was recently diagnosed with aggressive bone cancer and I must leave to help out at home. I hope to return for the next school year, but it is entirely dependant on my mother’s health. I will be sharing this news with the students today. I have secured a wonderful substitute for the last month of school, Ms. Demeter. She will be spending the day with us on Wednesday in order to see how I interact with the class. I know you will be just as supportive of her as you have been with me, and that the class will be in good hands. I’d like to leave you with a couple of thoughts. First, I am so grateful for the year I’ve had with your keiki. They are a wonderful, inquisitive, thoughtful, kind-hearted group of deep thinkers and feelers. I have enjoyed our many conversations about everything ranging from the definition of love to the ways that color and light are related. Please continue to encourage the creative, curious spirit in your children as they movr on to fourth grade. It will serve them well in life. Secondly, I’d like to share how much I love the leadership at our school. We were very sad to see Mr. Takiue go, and he will be greatly missed, especially as Mr. Gray will now be filling two roles. I encourage you to do what you can in support of Mr. Gray. He has been a wonderful leader this year, and truly cares about the education and emotional health of every single student on our campus. He makes it a point to visit every classroom every single day, checks in with the teachers, converses with the students, consults the staff, and does what he can to make our job easier and our campus more unified. I look forward to working with him (hopefully) for many more years. Thank you again for everything that you do and are, and I pray many blessings on the rest of your year. I will miss all of you! Aloha, Miss Cook www.misscooksthirdgrade.weebly.com (You may still contact me here with any questions/concerns/comments.) I have a missing reading book (number 88 I believe) that I know a student borrowed from another student, and we cannot find it. Please search your house and car for the missing book just in case it was your child who accidentally took the book home. Mahalo! We need it by the end of the school year.
Students should be finishing up their country reports in Google Drive with their school accounts this week. They aren't used to logging in at home, so here is a step-by-step tutorial on how to get there!
1. Go to the google search engine on your computer. Click on "sign in" in the upper right hand corner. 2. Enter your school e-mail account and password. If you don't remember what they are, send Miss Cook a message through the "Contact" box on the homepage of this website. 3. Once you've logged in, click on the 9-box array in the upper right corner of the webpage. You will see a symbol that is green, yellow and blue and kind of looks like a recycle symbol. This is your Google Drive. Click on it. 4. Once you've clicked on it, your should see some icons with different names. Look for the one with your country title. Click on it. 5. This should open up your document and you'll be good to go! 6. Remember, when you search for images, click on "search tools" and then on "usage rights" to search for images that are "labeled for reuse". 7. Have fun and be creative! |
