Parents, just a reminder that Open House is this Wednesday! Come on in to see what your child has been working on, to observe the classroom environment, and to ask any general questions about the way the classroom operates on a daily basis. The children have been working very hard on a project and are so excited to share with you!
We tried something new this morning - Spelling City. It's a spelling program designed to meet the varied levels of skill and ability within the classroom, and it's all web based. I've been fine tuning the spelling curriculum and figuring out what I really want from the students, and I've discovered that vocabulary, as well as correct spelling, is what will help the students move forward in their writing and reading. Spelling City allows you to take tests online, according to your skill level and needs, gives you practicing tools, quizzes your vocabulary, and provides me with the information on how each student is progressing. Right now I have four different spelling lists tailored to four groups of students! We used iPads to take the pretest today, and we'll take the test on the iPads on Thursday. Our only problem right now is that we don't have enough working headphones, so if you have a decent set of headphones that you'd be willing to donate, we'd love to have them! I'll have a parent letter ready for Wednesday evening so you can become a bit more familiar with the program. Those words, "Scholastic Book Orders" just make me so excited I can hardly stand it! When I was in school, I couldn't wait to get the new catalog and spend hours looking through, deciding what I wanted and what I could live without...if I had to. Our first book order of the year is due September 13th. You can either fill out the form and turn it in to me, or order online by clicking on the link on our "Fun" page and visiting the Scholastic website. Either way, let's keep reading!
Don't forget! There's a spelling test tomorrow morning! Study those words, and I'll see you all ready to go tomorrow. I saw HUGE improvement in your spelling lists last week and expect the same.
Aloha, all! I had a request for the AR link, so I loaded it on the "Fun" page, right under the Dolch Word Dinosaur. If you need to find the level of a book, or are wondering if the book your child is reading has a test, just click on the AR link and enter the t
The amount and difficulty of homework that you will be seeing increases significantly in 3rd grade. Please see the "Homework" page of my website for daily updates, in addition to reading and signing student planners. Thank you for your continued support! You should see math homework on Monday after school.
Well, we've made it to the third day of school, and I've already completely confused some of you! Sorry about the lack of direction on yesterday's homework assignment - I updated my expectations on the homework page of the website after school, but I know everyone isn't used to checking it yet.
If you would like to get in touch with me over the next few days or throughout the year, sending me an email is the best way. My classroom phone still has not been entirely set up. I can receive calls but cannot check my voicemail. If you left a message within the last couple of days and have been expecting a reply, I apologize. I am working on getting it up and running! You can contact me at [email protected] or leave me a message via the form at the bottom of this page. Mahalo nui loa! Miss Cook Here it is, the day we've all been waiting for! Take a peek at how the classroom has transformed over the last two weeks... My first look at the classroom.... ...a few days later... ...most of the teachers were on campus doing exactly what I spent all of last week doing...arranging, cleaning, sorting, hauling, tossing, singing...well, not all of us were singing, but sometimes it makes the work easier... Looking better, right?!
Now all it's missing...is YOU!!! |
