Homework
Expect homework every day! Unless specified differently, homework should always be completed and returned to the teacher by the next school day. I assign homework, not only to strengthen a student's skills, but also to keep parents aware of what their child is learning. If you have ANY questions about your child's assignment(s), please ask me let me know!
Homework Policy
Top Ten Holualoa School Homework Tips
1. Set a regular time and place for homework and stick with it.
2. Give each child his or her own supplies (pencils, markers, binder paper, ruler, glue) that aren’t shared with the rest of the family.
3. Make sure there are no distractions like T.V., younger siblings, etc.
4. Check the planner daily.
5. Break the homework down into steps if it seems too overwhelming. Have the child complete the most difficult homework first and give them breaks if necessary.
6. Help when needed, but don’t sit with them while they complete all of their work. Encourage them to work independently as much as possible.
7. Enforce consequences if the child refuses to do the work or repeatedly forgets the materials needed for homework (planner, A.R. book, text books).
8. Don’t argue. Teachers don’t argue with their students about doing work.
They state their expectations and then give consequences.
9. Pack up everything the night before so that nothing is forgotten.
10. Contact the teacher if you have a concern or a question.
Don’t forget to praise your child for a job well done and give yourself a pat on the back too!
